Welcome      Questions & Answers      How You Can Help

In 2004 a group of concerned citizens began meeting to discuss how to better serve seniors in Alachua County. That group became the Community Coalition for Older Adults (CCOA). Their research, over the past three years, determined the best way to address the largest number of needs for seniors and Baby Boomers is to design and build senior centers in Gainesville and Alachua County.

While Alachua County and Gainesville have a tremendous amount to offer in terms of natural beauty, outdoor recreation, culture, medical care, and affordability, people are already leaving or not selecting Gainesville as a retirement option due to the lack of options for older adults.

Senior centers were supported by the Older American Act of 1965 and created to provide social activities, nutritious meals and case management to adults aged 60 and older. Today’s Senior Centers provide that and more!

Help us get the word out to seniors and concerned citizens. (See how you can help.)

Representatives from Gainesville’s Community Redevelopment, Block Grants and Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs have also been involved in discussions. These groups are currently seeking supporters and potential
